"In the definition of home found on Google search engine, one word stands out: family. And, using that same search engine's definition of ownership, the key word is possessing.
Those two words sum up my meaning of home owner ship: To possess the place where one finds family. Family is, of course, open to many interpretations, but my family is me, my husband, the many children who have found their place in my heart, and the friends who come into my life and add such richness as to make me wonder at my good fortunate to know them. My home holds within its four walls all the evidence of my moments with family-the photographs, travel mementos, gifts given in joy and with love, and all other reminders of times celebrated and memories made. My home holds the beauty of my life from the most cherished belongings that make me want to be home to the fountain's melody on the back patio which brings peace to my soul as I embrace the colors, sounds, and smells of the beautiful landscape which surrounds my home (most certainly, while sipping a glass of fine pinot noir!)
Even though there are three names on the deed to my home- mine, my husband's, and the mortgage lender- I alone "possess" what my home means to me. Home ownership simply is possessing the place where your heart resides with your family however you define it; the place where your family lives, shares, dreams, makes memories, draws comfort, asks questions and finds answers, and peace in the company of each other. The walls of a "home" can come down, but the possession of what it has given to you will always be just yours."
